We ordered subs to go here and they were excellent. It's a store with a sub shop. We had called in our order ahead, so I'm not sure how service or timing is, but checkout was fast enough. Prices were a little high--I somehow spent $50 on 2 subs, 2 cannolis, some chips, and a drink--the sub did feed me for 2 meals though, and as I said were excellent.
After we moved to Texas, our Aunt has shipped us Zweigles from NewYorkStyleDeli.com. The first order was as a Christmas gift. The 2-day shipping had unexpectedly taken 3 days... the hotdogs arrived mostly frozen expect for the top pack which was completely thawed and at a questionable temperature and we didn't think they'd be safe to eat. After calling the company, they said it wasn't feasible to ship a single pack to us, so they sent us a $15 gift certificate towards any future purchases, which was really nice of them. Our most recent experience started out heartbreaking... our aunt (once again) sent us Zweigles... not knowing we were out of town. The shipment sat on our doorstep in 90 degree Texas heat. Needless to say, they were inedible and had to be thrown out. Dena at Calabresella's definitely brought "Smiles across the miles" and maybe even a tear or two from the unexpected surprise. We definitely appreciate all the kindness shown to us from this company. They've earned our business by their compassion. Lesson learned: Anyone looking to ship ROC foods to loved ones, be SURE your recipient will be there for delivery!!
What a cool place! They have lots of European grocery items, sliced meat, breads, desserts, a sandwich counter, and spacious dining area. We ordered a large steak sub, which had tons of steak on it that was absolutely delicious. I asked for it with Lettuce, tomato, and onion, but they made it with fried onion instead of raw--the sandwich was still very tasty. They have a spicy sub sauce, that I asked for on the side, and good thing I did, as the spices didn't seem to suit it. Staff here are very friendly, especially the gentleman that made my sub.
Your new favorite steak sub spot! My husband loves steak subs and I found out about Calabresella's because we saw their new location on Park Ave but actually live closer to their Gates location. I called and placed a phone order for Large Steak sub without onions or peppers. I arrived at this small, cozy and busy location during lunch rush but was quickly greeted with a smile and my sub was ready at time requested. I got the large steak sub which was fresh, flavorful and PACKED with beef and extra cheese as requested for small upcharge. The sub roll has just the right amount of chew and absorbs some of that steak and cheesy goodness, Yum! When I first held the sub on my way out of the store, I remember thinking OMG this is so heavy. I was so impressed with the deal I just received I came home and weighed it (see pics). The large sub could easily be shared with 2 or 3 depending on appetites. Other than warm subs this location also has a large menu of cold subs, salads, desserts and deli service counter. We have already have returned to get another steak sub and can confirm their excellent service and subs are consistently great! So happy we tried this staple in the area, stop in if you haven't and give them a try.
Calabresella's is a long standing, respected, Deli & Sub shop. It was founded in the 1970's. From sales people to business executives, to truckers and construction people, they have a great following, good service and a nice staff. I hadn't been there in awhile due to work but Thursday I had off and I was in the mood for my all time favorite sub, a Cheese-Steak sub with onions. So I headed to Calabresella's. When I walked in I was greeted by Dominic the owner. Dominic takes a lot of pride in his families business and does a good job to please his customers. The food is good, and prepared with pride. I highly recommend Calabresella's.
